Environment Minister, Mark H Durkan, today announced that coastal communities from Coleraine to Newcastle will benefit from almost £1.5million from the UK-wide Coastal Communities Fund.

The Fund, which is allocated by the UK Treasury to DOE and is additional to the Department’s budget, supports the regeneration and economic development of coastal communities by funding projects that create new jobs and safeguard existing jobs.
Outlining how the funding will be used, Mark H Durkan who is responsible for the Coastal Communities Fund in Northern Ireland said: “ This year three rounds of funding have been brought together into one to enable larger projects to be funded. Seven projects based around our coast at Coleraine, Bushmills, Ballycastle, Rathlin Island, Carrickfergus and Newcastle have received grants ranging from £71,000 to £734,000. These projects are excellent examples of how people can work together to regenerate and support the economic development of their communities. I am very pleased to be able to help them by providing funding that encourages partnership working and which will create and sustain jobs at all skills levels.”
