Members of the public were today invited to have their say on plans to protect and improve Northern Ireland waterways.

The Environment Minister launched a six-month consultation on draft second cycle River Basin Management Plans for Northern Ireland.
Mark H Durkan said: “River Basin Planning is about taking an integrated approach to the protection, improvement and sustainable use of the water environment, from source to sea.
“We all depend on our water environment, whether it is the source of our drinking water, for recreational use, for agricultural or business purposes or to attract tourists.
“These plans aim to provide a clean and healthy water environment and to deliver considerable benefits for everyone.”
Acknowledging the support and contributions made by his fellow Ministers, the Minister said: “It is in all our interests that we collectively take responsibility for the care of our water to ensure we get the water environment we deserve.
“I cannot stress how important it is that everyone engages in this consultation and provide invaluable feedback to help inform how we achieve the best possible water environment for this and future generations.”
