The plans include a new cafe/restaurant to the front of the property and a bar to the rear of 34 Shipquay Street.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: “This is a real boost for Shipquay Street. I very much welcome Derry City Council’s backing for the re-use of a vacant property which lies within the Historic City Conservation Area.
“This project will inject investment into the Historic City whilst bringing a vacant property back into use and adding to the vitality and viability of the city centre. What I am about is a better environment and stronger economy. This decision will help that.”
Derry City Council was consulted with the proposal at its meeting of 5 August 2014.
